A tip-off about suspicious activity near a primary school led the Hawks to stash of drugs worth more than R1-million inside an apartment in the North West.

Frank Nwaru‚ 43‚ made a brief appearance in the Klerksdorp Magistrate Court on Monday after the bust. He faces a charge of illegal possession of drugs.

Hawks spokesperson Captain Tlangelani Rikhotso said that the Hawks‚ acting on information about alleged drug dealing near a primary school‚ spotted Nwaru leaving his apartment and when he noticed that he was being followed‚ he allegedly threw a black plastic bag inside his vehicle and attempted to run away.

“The suspect was immediately overpowered and detained whilst his vehicle was searched‚ revealing the contents of the plastic bag to be drugs.”

When he was taken back to the apartment‚ a thorough search uncovered neatly packed crystal meth and CAT drugs worth about R1.5-million.

Nwaru's case was postponed to May 28 for a formal bail application.
