A Durban businessman was shot and killed in a hit-style shooting in Prospecton‚ south of Durban‚ on Friday morning.

Reports from the scene indicate that the businessman‚ whose name has not been released by police‚ was shot three times in the chest by a shooter who pulled up in a car‚ while he was standing outside his business premises.

The car with the shooter‚ and several other men‚ then sped off.

Netcare 911 spokesman Shawn Herbst said there was little paramedics could do for the man and he was declared dead at the scene. Police spokespeople were not available for comment on the incident at the time of publishing.

In another incident a man was killed and another badly wounded in a drive-by shooting on Neptune Road in Verulam on Friday morning.

Reaction Unit South Africa spokesman Prem Balram said a family had been travelling to work when a car pulled up alongside theirs and opened fire.

“The driver was shot in the leg while the front seat passenger was shot in the head. The victims sped off and stopped at a general dealer for assistance. The two injured men were rushed to a private hospital‚” he said.

“On arrival one of the men was pronounced deceased while the second victim is being treated for a gun shot wound to his leg.”

Police spokeswoman Captain Nqobile Gwala said that charges of murder and attempted murder were being investigated and that the motive for the shooting was unknown.
