For the second time in a number of weeks‚ metro police have pulled over a taxi‚ checked its licence disc and discovered that the crucial document was a cut-out from a pamphlet.

The most recent discovery was made in Johannesburg on Friday.

"This morning I joined the @JMPDSafety Freeway Unit and stopped a Taxi that was driving on the shoulder‚" said the Johannesburg Metro Police Department head‚ David Tembe on Twitter.

"The taxi is unroadworthy and unlicensed. [The] licence disc displayed is cut out from a pamphlet‚" Tembe said.

In the last incident‚ the taxi driver had put a newspaper article‚ taken from a Zulu newspaper‚ in the place of the disc‚ this one had an advert.

"Repairs in fridges‚ stoves. microwaves. washing machine‚ dish installation‚ installation of aircon‚" was written where the disc should be.

A barcode image was scribbled on the advert to try and make it look legit.

The vehicle was impounded.
