A case of attempted murder and hijacking has been opened after a Soweto man was found locked in his car boot - while it was being stripped by thieves.

“The man‚ believed to be in his forties‚ was hijacked from Soweto by three suspects. They held him [up] with firearms and drove to Eldorado Park where they parked to strip the car‚” said JMPD spokesman Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

Law enforcement officers spotted‚ from a distance‚ what looked like two cars parked in the bush at about 1am on Thursday.

“As they approached the two cars‚ one fled the scene and officers then noticed that a grey Toyota was being stripped … heard some noise in the boot and rescued the man who was the owner of the vehicle‚” said Minnaar.

The car which left the scene was not identified by the officers but three suspects were implicated in the hijacking.

Minnaar said a manhunt had been launched for the trio.
