The South African weather service issued an alert about a severe thunderstorm expected over the interior parts of KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday.
KwaZulu-Natal's disaster management teams were placed on high alert following a warning of severe storms –including the possibility of tornadoes - in some parts of the province.
Meanwhile further down the coast, heavy winds in Port Elizabeth saw buildings damaged and a crane toppling over in the harbour.
