Girl‚ 4‚ burnt to death in shack fire

Police are investigating the death of a four-year-old girl who was burnt beyond recognition in a shack fire at an informal settlement near Mountview‚ Verulam‚ KwaZulu-Natal‚ at the weekend.

Two other children‚ who were inside the shack when it was engulfed in flames‚ were badly burnt.

Police spokesman Colonel Thulani Zwane said detectives would probe the cause of the fire and the events leading up to it.

Reaction Unit South Africa spokesman Prem Balram said the child had been identified.

“Officers responded to the scene and managed to locate the body… lying face down and burnt beyond recognition. Two other children were found outside the residence‚” he said.

“Paramedics treated them for burns and transported them to hospital‚” he added.
