Local online fashion shop Superbalist had a record-breaking trading day on Black Friday, raking in more than R40m in revenue as it more than doubled (115%) its year-on-year growth.

Superbalist CEOs Claude Hanan and Luke Jedeikin said on Monday that 35,000 customers bought more than 180,000 items on Friday in their so-called Superbalist Showdown.

Jedeikin said their sales had doubled annually since Superbalist first took part in Black Friday in 2014. “This year, Black Friday came just two months after the merge with Spree and so we saw an even bigger increase.”

The most popular items? Shoes and accessories. “The Sixth Floor range of apartment essentials bagged the title of the best-selling brand on the day.”
