Limpopo police have arrested a wanted man who allegedly hit his victims on the head with a blunt object, dragged them to an isolated area and raped them.

The 37-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday during a sting operation by the police and the Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit.

Police spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe said on Wednesday that the man had been linked to four rapes that took place between 2015 and 2018 in the Marapong area outside Lephalale.

Ngoepe said in the first incident, in December 2015, a 34-year-old woman was struck on the head, raped and robbed.

In February 2016 a second woman, who was walking home from a party with a friend, was also hit with a blunt object. She collapsed while her friend escaped. The woman was dragged to a nearby park and raped.

The third incident occurred in May 2018 when a woman was also hit on the head, dragged to a nearby house and allegedly raped.

Two months later a woman was attacked near a car wash and dragged to a secluded area where she too was raped.

The man had been arrested previously and sentenced to two years' imprisonment for burglary. He was out on parole.

He is expected to appear in the Lephalale magistrate's court soon on four charges of rape.
