While digesting the news that President Cyril Ramaphosa has denied cabinet ministers a salary increase or that rapper Cassper Nyovest caught the attention of Jay-Z at the Global Citizen Festival, you may have missed these five weekend headlines.

Speaking of the Global Citizen Festival...

After shocking footage of post-festival crime chaos emerged, many people blamed poor planning by security and law-enforcement officials for the attacks on concert-goers.

People shared stories of how they were robbed of money and cellphones at a Sasol garage near Johannesburg's FNB Stadium, where the festival was held.

CCTV visuals from that night show a lack of police presence as thugs have their way with defenceless concert-goers.

It now appears that the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) may be criminally charged under legislation tabled following the 2001 Ellis Park soccer tragedy, in which 43 people died.

Hijack victim rescued

A Durban woman was found alive after a video showing the moment a group of men hijacked her did the rounds on social media.

The attackers shoved Marta Rubilar into the back seat of her car and drove off with her.

Police confirmed that Rubilar was rescued and was receiving medical attention.

Bosasa, Andile Ramaphosa and the 'non-existent' contract

When the DA asked about a R500,000 payment from Bosasa to his son, Andile, President Cyril Ramaphosa initially said the money was paid to Andile for work he had done for Bosasa after securing a contract with the company.

Ramaphosa later corrected his response.

“I have been told that the payment to which the leader of the opposition referred was made on behalf of Mr Gavin Watson into a trust account that was used to raise funds for a campaign established to support my candidature for the presidency of the African National Congress.”

It has now emerged that Bosasa is denying the existence of a contract between the company and the president’s son.

Mendi Msimang laid to rest

The funeral of former ANC treasurer-general Mendi Msimang was held in Pretoria on Saturday.

Ramaphosa delivered the eulogy and said: “It is at precisely this moment that we need leaders, cadres, public servants and business people of the calibre of Mendi Msimang.”

Baroka FC make history

The PSL newcomers beat Orlando Pirates to become the Telkom Knockout champions. Baroka FC is the first Limpopo team to win a topflight competition.

The match went into penalties after the sides played a 2-all draw.

Baroka FC come out tops, banging in three penalties against two successful kicks from Pirates.
