A man died after jumping off a bridge on the N3 south near the Geldenhuys Interchange in Ekurhuleni, east of Johannesburg, on Tuesday afternoon.

Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) spokesperson William Ntladi said the man jumped from the train bridge and landed on the highway below. He did not hit any vehicles.

The man was declared dead on the scene.

"We are just waiting for the photographers and other law enforcement agents to investigate the scene," said Ntladi.

All four lanes on the freeway were closed. Motorists were advised to use other routes.
