Two men drowned after getting into difficulty while swimming at Isipingo Beach, south of Durban, on Tuesday.

Paramedics managed to stabilise a third swimmer who was with the two victims.

Rescue Care spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said the double drowning occurred at Tiger Rocks.

"Three males, believed to be around 40 years of age, got into difficulty while swimming at the beach. They were brought to shore by lifesavers. Unfortunately two of the men passed away and were declared dead on the scene," said Jamieson.

He added that the survivor suffered moderate injuries and had to be airlifted to hospital.

Police are expected to investigate.
