Durban mosque razed in arson attack

The Effingham Islamic Society Trust has confirmed an arson attack on a mosque in Durban in the early hours of Monday morning. 

In a statement, the trust said the attack on Faizane Mariam Masjid, in Effingham Heights occurred at about 12:40am Monday.

"The Faizane Mariam Masjid in Effingham Heights became the victim of an arson attack. The masjid was set alight by arsonists resulting in significant fire damage."

The trust said law enforcement agencies were investigating the attack and more information would be released as it was available.

"We ask for calm as the case is investigated and the perpetrators brought to book."

Police didn't respond to queries at the time of publishing.
