DA leader Mmusi Maimane's comment on the alleged abuse of Babes Wodumo has landed him in trouble on social media.
The video, which was posted by Babes in her Instagram account, purports to show her being physically abused by her long-time boyfriend, Mampintsha.
Responding to a Twitter user Mbali Ntuli, who had shared the video on the platform, Maimane took to the comments to challenge Mampintsha to three rounds in a boxing ring, saying the musicians behaviour makes him "sick".
His comment stirred a mixed bag of reactions as some simply laughed it off, saying he won't stand a chance, while some accused him of promoting the very cancerous social ill which is violence.
If Mampintsha has it in him, I’d challenge him to 3 rounds on a boxing ring. He must bring it on, violence against woman must be condemned. A charge must be opened. It makes me sick this behavior.

Tweeps flooded the comments section. Here are some of the reactions:
You can’t solve violence with violence sir. Endeavor to change legislation. The pen is mightier than the sword Akere. A video circulated of a woman being abused and while lawmakers could say was she had to go and have him arrested directly. Do better

But Mmusi! It's this very hyper masculinity that's the cause of abuse!

This "I'm a man, I'm stronger than you, I can beat you up, I'm provoked so I want to fix it violently" mentality that we are trying to highlight and Mmusi perpetuates it.
Toxic labantu called men.
You will confuse my vote when you speak sense like this pic.twitter.com/pGCRIRCj0Q
