Heavy downpours, hail lead to flooding in Johannesburg
Heavy rain and hail flooded several roads across Johannesburg on Tuesday night.
Traffic around Braamfontein and Empire Road were gridlocked. Roads were also flooded in Jet Park, Boksburg. The M1 north leading towards Pretoria was also flooded.
According to Johannesburg emergency services spokesperson Nana Radebe, roads in Soweto and about four homes in Eldorado Park were damaged.
No fatalities were reported.
The SA Weather Service had issued a warning of severe thunderstorms that could lead to localised flooding and hail in Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg, Tshwane and the West Rand.
