Plans were underway on Wednesday afternoon to remove the light aircraft from the N1 after it made an emergency landing on the highway near Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria.

Civil Aviation Authority spokesperson Kabela Ledwaba said the Piper PA-46 Malibu turboprop-engine aircraft departed from Wonderboom airport at 7.49am. Its intended destination was the Pietersburg Civil Airport in Polokwane, Limpopo.

However, the aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing on the highway near Hammanskraal.

Ledwaba said the forced emergency landing was executed successfully.

Only the pilot was on board the private flight. No injuries and damages were reported.

The incident is still under investigation.
