Gauteng's sport, arts, culture and recreation MEC Faith Mazibuko dominated the Twitter trends list after investigative journalism group Amabhungane shared an audio recording in which she is heard scolding her staff members and making racial remarks.

In the recording she tells her staff they need to do whatever it takes to keep the promises they made and deliver "combi courts", facilities that can accommodate a variety of sports, to communities before the May 8 elections.

"I don't care if you fly a kite or you do magic. Make it happen.

"Which department has an Indian that is the CFO? You are a second one, a woman. You must thank your lucky stars. Which department has an HOD that is a mlungu? Ayikho (none), including national, so you must thank me."
