An Eskom substation in Allandale, near Tembisa in Ekurhuleni, caught fire on Wednesday.

Eskom said it had dispatched technicians to the substation to assess the situation.

The parastatal’s spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe said the cause of the fire was not known.

Numerous areas were left without electricity as a result of the blaze. “The areas affected by the power outage include Ivory Park and parts of Tembisa," he said.

"Eskom apologises for the inconvenience."
