Bafana Bafana's Sunday night victory, energy minister Jeff Radebe's African exploration and more Eskom revelations: here are five must-read stories from the weekend.

Bafana Bafana 

The country's national soccer team secured their spot in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday night by defeating Libya 2-1.

Percy Tau was the star of the game as he scored two goals during the match in Sfax, Tunisia. Bafana Bafana's win will see them join 23 other national teams at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt from 21 June -19 July.

Jeff Radebe's oil deal

Energy minister Jeff Radebe has been involved in a $1bn (R14.5bn) oil deal in South Sudan despite the Central Energy Fund's disapproval, Sunday Times reported.

Radebe is said to have appointed a team to execute the project and his team has spent almost R20m on expenses such as travel costs. The project is at a feasibility stage.

R967m allocated towards historical debt for students

The department of higher education has sought to settle historical debt for 52,514 university students by allocating R967m to the National Student Financial Aid Scheme.

The amount allocated to NSFas will pay off the debt of students under the previous NSFas scheme, before 2018. 

Hawks dives into Eskom's  maintenance funds

The Hawks are looking into Eskom's maintenance funds and how the funds were allegedly diverted to other divisions and looted through tenders.

Sunday Times reported that some of the money allocated for the maintenance of power plants was allegedly diverted to the Kusile power station project.  

Helen Zille slams ANC supporters 

The Western Cape premier Helen Zille called out ANC supporters for booing at her at a land restitution ceremony in Ebenhaeser on Saturday.

"This is a state function, paid for by the taxpayers," Zille said, before delivering her speech. ANC supporters heckled Zille in the presence of President Cyril Ramaphosa.
