Two men suspected to be the masterminds behind a spate of bread delivery truck robberies in Soweto, Johannesburg, have been arrested.

Police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said that officers were following a truck in Doornkop, southwest of Johannesburg, at the weekend when it was ambushed by the men.

Masondo said the men opened fire when they spotted the officers.
