From petrol hikes to allegations on ANC NEC member Ace Magashule and violence in an EC prison: here are five stories from the weekend that you may have missed.

Petrol price

As of Wednesday the petrol price will rise by R1.34 per litre for 93 octane and R1.31 for 95 octane in non-coastal provinces. For coastal provinces 95 unleaded will go up by R1.26 and R1.29 for 93 unleaded.

The diesel 0.05 price increases by 76c/l at the coast and 81c/l inland and illuminating paraffin goes up by 56c/l at the coast and 63c/l inland.

Energy minister Jeff Radebe said April is an important month to revise road and pipeline tariffs, Road Accident Fund levies and fuel.  He also attributed the hike to the depreciating rand against the US dollar and the increase of the Brent Crude oil price.

Xenophobic attacks

Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Lindiwe Sisulu is expected to meet with African ambassadors to address the current violent attacks on foreign nationals in Durban.

Sisulu released a statement on Saturday condemning the violence, adding that the African continent contributed to the fight to end apartheid.

There have been sporadic but continued attacks against foreign nationals in the area over the past seven days, sparking widespread condemnation.

Ace Magashule

A new book has ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule at the centre of state capture allegations in the Free State.

Extracts from the book, Gangster State: Unraveling Ace Magashule's Web of Captureby investigative journalist Pieter-Louis Myburgh, were published on Sunday.

Some of the allegations include Magashule taking Mangaung's then-managing mayor Thabo Manyoni from the Free State to the Gupta compound in Johannesburg without his knowledge back in 2013.

Magashule has also been implicated in a massive government contract as well as the death of a businessman who was shot in Sandton two years ago.  This is based on leaked emails and documents.

The ANC called the claims "dubious".

Masutha clamps down on EC prison

Minister of Justice and Correctional Services Michael Masutha has ordered an investigation into the murder of a prison warder at the Goedemoed Correctional Centre in Aliwal North, Eastern Cape.

A female warder was stabbed after she and another warder were held hostage by an inmate for nearly three hours on Friday.

Nipsey Hussle

Grammy-nominated American rapper Nipsey Hussle was shot dead outside of a clothing store in Los Angeles, USA, on Sunday, CNN reported.

Two other people were reportedly injured in the shooting and taken to hospital.

The death of the 33-year-old rapper has sent shockwaves across the music industry and social media. Many celebrities including Rihanna, Drake and John Legend paid tribute.
