Hundreds of protesters bring traffic to a standstill in central Durban
Protest action has broken out in Umgeni Road outside the Durban CBD on Tuesday.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said that about 500 people had blockaded the road near the Durban train station and Stamford Hill Road with burning tyres.
"The road is still closed, police are at the scene to monitor and stabilise the situation," said Gwala.

Police say the motive for the protest is unknown at this stage, however it is understood that it may be taxi related.
According to a policeman on the scene, one of the drivers said they were "sick" of the government and frustrated by attempts to obtain taxi permits.
Motorists are advised to stay away from the area.
