Protests broke out in the early hours of the morning in parts of Tshwane and Cape Town.

Roads were barricaded and tyres were burnt as residents in Hammanskraal, Mabopane and Soshanguve took to the streets in protest.

Reasons for the protests in Tshwane reportedly include municipal billing as well as taxi fines and impounding of taxis.

#TshwaneTotalShutdown trended a week after residents in Alexandra township embarked on a service delivery protest under the banner of #AlexTotalShutdown.

The protests brought Tshwane to a standstill as traffic built up on major roads.

Residents in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, blocked roads and burnt tyres while protesting against high water bills.

The streets of Khayelitsha were reportedly blocked from the early hours of the morning in a protest organised by the Water Crisis and High Bills group.
