The Bakwena N1-N4 toll route operator has compiled its expected peak times to allow motorists travelling over the Easter weekend to stagger their journeys to avoid the worst of the traffic.

Thousands more vehicles are expected along the route, particularly the N1 north to Polokwane in Limpopo for the annual Zion Christian Church Easter festival.

Between 2,400 and 2,800 vehicles an hour are expected to pass through the Pumulani and Carousel toll plazas during the peak periods, Bakwena spokesperson Charmaine van Wyk said on Monday.

Peak periods are expected as follows:

-  N1 northbound & N4 westbound: Thursday April 18 between noon and 9pm/Friday  April 19 between 6am and noon

-  N1 southbound & N4 eastbound: Monday April 22 between noon and 9pm.

"Road users are encouraged to plan their journeys to avoid travelling in the peak periods," said Bakwena.

The operator will release live traffic updates throughout the weekend on its Twitter account, @BakwenaN1N4.

Although President Cyril Ramaphosa visited Moria last year, the ZCC is known for remaining neutral.

When ZCC bishop Barnabas Lekganyane addressed the 2018 National Day of Prayer at a packed FNB Stadium in Johannesburg in November, he urged politicians to be moderate in their conduct ahead of the May 8 general elections.

"Every politician should make their supporters aware that though they come from different political parties, they belong to one country."
