‘Our hearts are broken’: friends mourn families after lodge fire

The blaze wiped out the entire Carstens household. Danè Carstens and her two sons Magiel and Pierre-Johan all died in the fire. Hendri Carstens succumbed to his injuries at the Christiaan Barnard Hospital in Cape Town on Sunday evening, a family wrote on Facebook.

“No one deserves to die in such a traumatic manner. Our hearts are broken. We are lost for words.”

These were the words of a friend of one of the three families caught in a deadly Kalahari blaze.
