A 43-year-old Humansdorp man has been found guilty by the Gqeberha high court of raping the 11-year-old daughter of the woman he had killed.
On Friday acting judge Michelle Beneke convicted the man on one charge of rape after the state proved beyond a reasonable doubt he had forced the youngster to have sex with him on numerous occasions during 2020 after he was released on parole.
His name is being withheld to protect the identity of the girl.
It 2014 he was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for culpable homicide after the death of the girl’s mother during a drunken altercation.
His latest conviction carries a prescribed minimum sentence of life behind bars.
At the start of the trial he pleaded not guilty to the charge, but during his graphic testimony this week he admitted to having sex with the girl, claiming it had been consensual.
He also admitted he was the father of the baby girl later born to the 11-year-old child.
Beneke found his allegations the girl had been a willing participant in the sexual acts highly improbable.
Sentence proceedings are expected to begin on May 23.
