On March 27 2000, Westville police received a desperate call for help.

From the other end of the line, 20-year-old Frederick “Frits” Wolmarans demanded immediate assistance from a police unit at his parents' home.

The young man said he had arrived home at 11pm after a visit with a friend to The Pavilion Shopping Centre, and found their home had been broken into and both his parents were dead.

Listen to the story, here:

When police descended on the home of the successful couple, it soon became apparent all was not as it seemed.

Physical evidence in the home did not point to the robbery-gone-wrong scenario the young man, who was known to his friends as “Snakes”, alleged. Rather, the injuries to the victims and the manner in which access had been gained to the house spoke of a killer far closer to home.

In episode 98 of True Crime South Africa, we explore the tragic deaths of a loving mother and father whose greatest crime was trying too hard to guide their wayward child.
