Three public viewing sites with DJs and big screens have been confirmed by the City of Cape Town for the Rugby World Cup final clash between the Springboks and All Blacks on Saturday.

The highly anticipated game will be streamed live at the following locations:

  • in Bree Street in the CBD;
  • the Monwabisi Sport and Recreation Centre in Langa; and
  • the Westridge Civic Centre in Mitchells Plain.

“The World Cup this year has been one of the most exciting and unifying sporting events in our nation’s history,” said mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis.

“For the final, the city is pleased to announce three public viewing sites in the CBD, Langa and Mitchells Plain where residents can get together and hopefully watch the Springboks make history by winning the title for a fourth time.”

The area reserved for viewing the game in the CBD is Bree Street, between Church and Hout streets. There will be soft road closures from Wale to Strand streets, and Loop to Buitengracht, including all side streets leading to the venue.

All three sites will be active from 5pm with music and big screens. Kickoff is at 9pm.

Safety and security MMC JP Smith said: “We are looking forward to an evening of fun and excitement at the sites. Apart from the events logistics, we will also have our enforcement and rescue services deployed in and around the venues to ensure the safety of those in attendance.”
