The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls (Owlag) achieved a 100% bachelor’s pass rate in the matric 2025 results.

The matric class of 2025 delivered outstanding results, with all 44 candidates achieving a 100% bachelor’s degree pass, an impressive average of 76% that reflects a strong and consistent academic performance across the cohort.

At least 43% of their exams were passed with marks above 80%, while 76% were above 70% and an overwhelming 94% exceeded the 60% mark.

The school had 5% of its pupils who ranked among the top 1% nationally in Independent Examination Board (IEB) subjects, a notable achievement that places the class among the country’s top performers.

Executive director Gugulethu Ndebele said that when the class of 2025 came in, they chose a motto that spoke to them: Zenith, which speaks of a highest point, a moment of culmination reached not by chance, but through sustained effort and ascent.

“At the time the name carried aspiration. In hindsight it carries meaning. It recognises our pupils reached the top through effort — Not certainty, but fortitude,” she said.

Ndebele said the class of 2025 challenges a familiar narrative: “It reminds us learning gaps are not fixed within pupils. They are responsive to context, time and intentional design. When opportunity expands, when expectations remain intact, and when support is sustained with fortitude, trajectories shift.”

Ndebele praised the matric results, expressing gratitude to the families and to every member of the Owlag community who walked the journey with them.
