A motorist, later accused of being intoxicated, crashed his vehicle into a ditch in KwaZulu-Natal before allegedly fleeing from the scene on foot.
The single-car accident occurred just before 11am on Thursday in Hazelmere, KZN, on New Glasgow Road.
Members of Reaction Unit SA (Rusa) were returning from an unrelated operation when they came across the scene soon after the accident had taken place, according to a statement.
An alleged drunk driver fred the scene after crashing a bakkie into a ditch in Hazelmere, KwaZulu-Natal.

“Reaction officers found three individuals standing near the damaged vehicle,” said Rusa.
“The men informed officers that the driver was known to them and had fled shortly after the incident. They added that they had heard about the accident and arrived on scene a short while later.
“According to one of the men, the driver was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the crash.”
The security company could not immediately establish whether the driver had sustained any injuries.
