China's jailed Nobel Peace Prize laureate Liu Xiaobo was allowed out of prison last month to attend his father's funeral, his brother told AFP, in an unusual break in the dissident's 11-year jail term.

"On September 18, Liu Xiaobo was sent back home... for his father's funeral a week after his death," Liu Xiaoxuan said over the phone, adding he had also been able to visit his brother in prison last month.
