The story of Ebola victims rising from the dead that has gone viral on the internet is a hoax.

The story headlined, “Africa confirms 3rd Ebola victim rises from the dead, releases picture of first ‘Ebola zombie’ captured,” which has been shared around the web, came from a satirical site Big America News.

The image caption reads: "For the first time in human history, confirmed footage is captured of a man who scientists watched die from Ebola then only several hours later, regain life and rise from the dead".

The fake image was stolen and altered from Brad Pitt’s and Fana Mokeona’s zombie movie World War Z, which stars Pitt as a former UN investigator who is trying to save the world from a zombie rampage.

AU news reports that the hoax follows a video showing health workers who were shocked about an ebola patient that was thought to be dead, but then moved their arm.
