A man who claimed he was served a fried rat after noticing a suspicious looking 'tail' on a piece of KFC chicken handed over the piece for lab testing.
The poultry piece was found to be 100 percent chicken flesh - and not rat meat as asserted by the customer, Devorise Dixon.
KFC denied the claims that its California outlet had served rat meat and called on Dixon to prove this. Dixon did not respond at first, then finally handed over the chicken piece for lab testing.
KFC had launched an investigation, and claimed there was no evidence to support Dixon's claim.
"Food safety is out highest priority worldwide and we take allegations of this nature extremely seriously."
According to Mashable.com, a representative of the lab said: "Based on visual analysis of the sample (and accompanying photography) and on the results of the ELISA-TEK® Cooked Poultry Species Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay Kit (ELISA Technologies, Gainesville, FL), Food Safety Net Services, Ltd. declares the battered and breaded cooked meat sample to be poultry."
