As Americans took to the polls in the midterm elections, many took to Twitter to compare how they felt about voting in 2016 and voting in 2018.

With fierce campaigns, celebrity endorsements and the Trump factor, Twitter was lit.

Singer Taylor Swift, who has always remained mum on political issues, recently broke her silence and urged her fans to make sure their voice was heard.

Analysts have credited her with an upsurge in the youth vote across the U.S, with The Guardian reporting that early voting results from Tennessee saw the youth vote jump seven times the 2014 total.

Results started streaming in at midnight (South African time).
