WATCH | Death and destruction as California wildfires continue to ravage the state
The deadliest wildfires California has ever seen continue to bring the state to its knees, as firefighters battle the blazes.
In the wooded town of Paradise in northern California, officials on Monday discovered the charred remains of 13 people, bringing the death toll to 42.
The New York Times reports that officials in Butte country have confirmed that more than 200 people are still missing.
Just east of the city of Chico, more than 7,000 structures have been destroyed.
Residents have posted images and video footage as they try to escape the flames.
