The Kangaroo Sanctuary Alice Springs announced the death of its most famous resident, Roger, from old age at the weekend, saying they had lost their "beautiful boy".

"He lived a lovely long life and was loved by millions around the world," the post read.

The BBC reports Roger the kangaroo first came to the world's attention in 2015 when images of him crushing a metal bucket in his paws using his huge muscles went viral.

Roger ended up growing more than 2m tall and weighing 89kg.
