It is worrying that 2013 Africa Cup of Nations tickets are not selling "like hot cakes", the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal said.
"Reportedly, only a quarter of the tickets to matches that will be played at Durban's Moses Mabhida Stadium have been sold," said spokesman Senzo Mkhize.
Durban will host six games of the tournament, including the quarter-final and semi-final.
Mkhize said the province was known for its hospitality and warmth, and that character had to be displayed during the tournament.
"We urge our people to rise to the occasion and welcome visitors from the length and breadth of our continent. We have to fill the stadium to the
rafters, and that will only happen if people buy tickets," he said.
The party was happy that tickets for the opening match between Bafana Bafana and Cape Verde were sold out.
The match will be played at the National Stadium (FNB Stadium) in Soweto on Saturday.
