Court ruling could split trade union federation

The Johannesburg High Court has ordered the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) to hold a special congress within two months after unions disaffected with the expulsion of the National Union of Mineworkers (Numsa) went to court. The congress will reconsider the decision to expel Numsa‚ which was expelled from Cosatu in November last year after it refused to follow the federation's political line by supporting the ANC election campaign.
