EFF provincial leader bid to have suspension overturned thrown out of court with costs
Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Eastern Cape legislature leader Themba Wele was dealt a blow today when he failed to convince the Bhisho High Court to overturn his March suspension from party and the legislature. The court threw out his challenge and ordered him to pay all costs. In court papers submitted by his legal team to the high court‚ Wele had claimed that his suspension was unlawful because he was not given time by his party to oppose it. In the same founding affidavit Wele submitted to court he said he initially took his suspension letter signed by the party's secretary-general Godrich Gardee as a hoax.Wele was served with a suspension letter on March 6 amid allegations that he had been involved in the creation of parallel structures in the province. He was also placed on temporary suspension for allegedly failing to attend party meetings and for defying party's orders when he employed a PA of his choice against who was recommended by his party. He was then banished from attending the legislature on behalf of EFF‚ speaking on any EFF matters while he was also barred from wearing any party regalia.
