Medicines Control Council to fast-track sourcing of pharmaceutical ingredients

Health minister Aaron Motsoaledi announced on Wednesday that the statutory Medicines Control Council is to fast-track sourcing of active pharmaceutical ingredients pre-qualified by the World Health Organisation in order to cope with the shortage of certain medicines in the country. The minister confirmed recently that South Africa was experiencing a limited supply of approximately 155 medicines mainly due to the global shortage of active pharmaceutical ingredients.
