Former Wits SRC President Mcebo Dlamini has confirmed he was approached by the Economic Freedom Fighters to join the party.

Dlamini, who led the #FeesMustFall campaign, told the Sunday World that Julius Malema’s party was so desperate to have him join the red beret brigade that they offered him the Wits EFF chairmanship to replace incumbent Vuyani Pambo.

“Yes, Dali Mpofu asked me to join the EFF and we spoke at length about that. But I have not given that a thought. I remain a member of the ANC in good standing,” Dlamini told the paper.

“Vuyani approached me and said he is willing to step down and be the secretary so that I can be the chair if I join them. They say I’m a strong force for change and would add value to their cause and I can help them dominate student politics,” he said.

EFF spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi said it was not true that his party tried to poach Dlamini, a member of the ANC affiliated Sasco.
