ANC Women’s League members said they were now at ease knowing that genital mutilator-accused Peter Frederiksen – "who thinks he is a god" – will remain behind bars.

Frederiksen was denied bail when he appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Regional ANCWL chairperson Mapaseka Nkoane described Magistrate Marlene Marais’ decision not to grant Frederiksen bail as a victory.

"As the women’s league, we are really delighted, we are now at ease that Peter Frederiksen is back in jail and justice has been served. This is a victory for the women who have been victimised by this man," said Nkoane.

"Even though it is not final today, but based on how the court handled this matter, we can see that human rights are considered... We are looking forward to him to get [a] life sentence... which is what he deserves.”

Nkoane said she was upset during the bail application process when Frederiksen appeared "arrogant" and kept on "bragging".

"We were very angry because of the manner in which he was going on in court. He is very arrogant and he kept on bragging and telling the magistrate that [the court] doesn’t have evidence that might suggest he killed his wife in Lesotho – he thinks he is a god and he is not."

The Danish national, whose case has made international headlines, was arrested after 21 clitorises were found in his freezer. He allegedly sliced off the sexual organs and kept them in the freezer as trophies.

He is also being investigated for the murder of his wife, 28-year-old Anna Matseliso Molise, who was gunned down in Lesotho following his arrest. She was expected to be a key State witness in the case against her husband.

Frederiksen faces charges including assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, manufacturing child pornography, distribution of child pornography, possession of child pornography, conspiracy to murder and bigamy.

His hearing was postponed to January 13 for further investigation.
