Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande attempted to address protesting students outside Parliament today‚ but was shouted down. The students had earlier chanted "We want Blade" but were in no mood to listen to him once he came out‚ standing behind a metal fence‚ to address them with a loudhailer‚ following clashes with police.The police had fired stun grenades to oust the protesting students from the parliamentary precinct.At about 4pm, Nzimande tried in vain to address the students but they did not want to listen to him. He had to retreat due to the noise from a rowdy crowd of students gathered outside 100 Plein Street.He was flanked by state security minster David Mahlobo, police minister Nathi Nhleko and defence minister Nosiviwe Mapisa Nqakula.Asked what he was trying to tell the students, Nzimande said: “I was trying to tell about yesterday’s discussion with vice chancellors”. It was after this meeting on Tuesday that the minister said an agreement had been reached to cap next year's fee increases to an infllation-linked 6%. Students have shut campuses across the country to demand zero-fee increases and a broader roll-out of government subsidies.Nzimande left the students after being told to do so by current deputy minister of agriculture and former police commissioner Bheki Cele.From about 17:00 a strong and cold wind came up and the numbers of students dissipated...
