A Bhisho MPL has been drawing his R85‚000 monthly salary despite sitting at home for the past year. February will mark exactly a year since expelled Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) legislature leader Themba Wele was suspended and later expelled by his party.However‚ he continues to receive R1.02-million a year salary as the leader of the minority party at the Bhisho legislature.Even after his expulsion from the EFF last October‚ he also continued to receive his benefits that included medical aid‚ an iPhone‚ a state house and a tablet.This situation arose after he had interdicted the legislature and his party late last year against replacing him as one of only two EFF MPLs at the provincial legislature.Legislature’s acting spokesman Velisile Bukula confirmed that Wele was still a MPL and still received all his benefits.“We cannot replace him as yet because he had approached the high court challenging his dismissal from his party and that case has not yet been finalised‚” Bukula said.“The legislature will‚ however‚ abide by the decision of the court‚ but we cannot divulge any more information on this matter at this stage‚ as it is also still an internal political matter.”Wele said he had been on sick leave for the most part of last year. He said he returned to work this month and that his matter was going back to court on February 11.He refused to discuss this more‚ saying “it was still sub judice”.EFF MPL and provincial chairman Siyabulela Peter said the party cannot replace Wele until the court process had been completed.“He is already expelled by the party‚ but our hands are tied as we cannot do anything at this moment until this is settled by the court which will sit in mid-February‚” said Peter.- TMG Digital/Dispatch..
