A group protested on Friday by blockading roads and pelting police vehicles with rocks.

They were angry about the decision to create a new municipality in the area, which will include Makhado (under which Vuwani falls) and Malamulele.

Community leader Thomas Ndou said residents would boycott the registration process until government reversed the decision to include them under the new municipality.

“No government plan should be active while we are still fighting our court battle against the plan to be under a new municipality,” said Ndou.

Police fired rubber bullets to disperse protesters who had blockaded the road between Elim and Malamulele.
