Zuma to headline Gauteng election manifesto launch‚ while ANC scrambles to fill stadium

President Jacob Zuma will deliver a keynote address when the African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng launches its election manifesto this Saturday. Zuma will share the stage with provincial chairperson Paul Mashatile. The ANC is under pressure to pack FNB Stadium after embarrassing scenes at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium‚ where it failed to fill the venue when it launched its national election manifesto in April. ANC leaders in Gauteng have been on the road throughout the province with the intention of drawing in the crowds.Gauteng premier and deputy provincial chairperson David Makhura said: “Our preparations for this rally have been meticulous‚ seamless and thoroughly consultative.“All preparatory steps and precautionary measures have been taken to ensure the rally is free from any glitches. As we prepare for the 2016 local government elections‚ we deliberately‚ consciously and confidently chose FNB Stadium as a venue fit for hosting thousands of volunteers‚ activists and supporters.“They are already working hard to achieve a decisive victory for the ANC on the 3rd of August.“For more than four weeks‚ we have been mobilising ANC volunteers‚ activists and supporters for regional manifesto launches. For the past two weeks‚ we have been working on the ground directing all energies towards a successful provincial manifesto launch."Makhura said more than 18 artists and groups will perform throughout the day...
