Cheryl Carolus: Zuma has lost it

President Jacob Zuma is abdicating responsibility for his personal blunders‚ dividing the African National Congress (ANC) and should step down. That is the blunt message delivered by former ANC secretary-general Cheryl Carolus in a video interview with Eyewitness News published on Monday.Carolus was‚ at times‚ scathing about the behaviour of Zuma‚ who she described as a “thoughtful man” to whom she had turned for advice in the past but who had subsequently “lost it”.“I just think this president has really lost it and my call on him is to just step aside and allow the ANC to do its proper job that it is best known for and that is to lead the country‚” she said.Carolus echoed a call made last week by former ANC treasurer-general Mathews Phosa for Zuma to step aside. She said that Zuma had “taken this country into the most divisive period of politics”.“The biggest problem I think with how our president is conducting himself currently is he’s abdicating responsibility for his own personal wrongs and making it a national crisis. “He is prepared to divide the ANC on the basis of something that he has acknowledged he was wrong about‚” she said. Hundreds of millions had been spent on legal fees defending Zuma who “should be the most exemplary citizen of this country.”“Even worse‚ he gets good men and women to lie on his behalf‚ to effectively violate their oath of office‚ to distort the truth and those men and women‚ good people‚ have to go home and face their children after that rubbish that he gets them to speak on television about fire pools and cattle kraals and heaven knows what else which was so ridiculous‚” she said.Watch the interview here..
