African National Congress (ANC) head of elections Nomvula Mokonyane is talking herself into trouble with the party. Mokonyane‚ who is Minister of Water Affairs and Sanitation‚ appears to have irked senior members of the party by stating that the ANC had spent more than R1-billion campaigning for the local government elections.She made the comment in Cape Town last week‚ where‚ to the surprise of many‚ she also stated that ANC provincial chair Marius Fransman – embroiled in a sexual harassment scandal – was back at work.Eyewitness News reported on Tuesday that Mokonyane could be disciplined by the party for commenting on its finances.ANC spokesman Zizi Kodwa said: "The secretary-general indicated that anybody that comments about this issue to the media would need to be disciplined in line with the of the organisation’s internal processes."Secretary-general Gwede Mantashe has also rubbished claims that Fransman – who must still appear before the party’s disciplinary committee – had resumed his work as provincial chair of the party.“As I said last week and I am repeating it…decisions in the ANC are taken by structures.
