ANC wins vote for Speaker of Ekurhuleni

The African National Congress has claimed Ekurhuleni's first victory by retaining the position of Speaker at Tuesday's council meeting.Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality has elected its Speaker as the first part of its election process concluded. On Tuesday Patricia Khumalo from the (ANC) received the most votes after being selected by 117 out of 224 councillors as the speaker of the municipality.Her opponent was the Democratic Alliance DA's Shadow Shabangu‚ who took 106 of the votes with one vote being a spoiled vote.Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and ANC councillors were united‚ as they sang against a common enemy‚ the Democratic Alliance (DA).Struggle songs broke out at the council chambers in Germiston as the two parties chanted‚ danced and sang at the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality's inaugural council sitting.“We don't want the agenda of the capitalists. It killed Chris Hani‚” they sang as the Electoral Commission of SA officials counted the ballots after councillors voted.Councillors from the DA watched silently as councillors from the ANC jumped up from their chairs‚ dancing on the chambers' stairs.The DA and EFF had initially sung and danced together as the EFF sang about how President Jacob Zuma and his shower head together with deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa had killed the miners in Marikana. “They are (the ANC) are trembling‚ with fear‚ Baleka Mbete Jacob Zuma‚” they sang.- TMG Digital/BDlive..
