Former finance minister Nhlanhla Nene is baffled by this letter bearing his name which was found among hundreds of thousands of leaked Gupta emails.

This letter‚ which Nene claims is fake‚ is addressed to the chairman of the China Development Bank (CDB)‚ Hu Huaibang.

It speaks to a possible renegotiation of the “strategic funding” of the CDB’s partial funding of Transnet’s R50-billion locomotive procurement project and the possible support of other projects with other state owned entities.

It was written‚ metadata shows‚ by a Regiments Capital employee at the behest of former Regiments director Eric Wood.

Wood has told The Times he was asked to write the letter by then Transnet chief financial officer Anoj Singh who has claimed he cannot recall the letter.
