WATCH LIVE | Malusi Gigaba grilled in parliament on Fireblade and lies
Embattled Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba will be in the hot seat in parliament in Tuesday.
Gigaba will be grilled on the decision to grant the Oppenheimer family permission to operate a private terminal at OR Tambo International Airport.
Billionaire businessman Nicky Oppenheimer and ANC politician-turned-businessman Manne Dipico told parliament last week that Gigaba had lied to the institution when he insisted that he never gave the company approval to operate the terminal.
On Wednesday Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane agreed with the courts that Gigaba had lied under oath about approving the facility. The minister was a dealt a further blow on Thursday when the Constitutional Court dismissed his application for leave to appeal a court ruling that he lied under oath.
Opposition parties have called for Gigaba to be fired.
Gigaba told the Sunday Times that he did not give the greenlight to Fireblade Aviation. He also made startling claims that the Oppenheimers lobbied the ANC, and that they had claimed to have former president Jacob Zuma’s approval when they met.
